Frequently Asked Questions

How long will it take to earn my degree?

It’s up to you! How long you take depends upon the number of courses in your degree program and how many courses you take each session. If you take the maximum number of courses each session, you could graduate in about 16 months. All new students can take their first two classes while they wait for the next session to begin.

I struggled in high school; will this be too difficult for me?

Absolutely not! Many students find studying from home to be easier and more rewarding than their previous experiences with school. Because you set your own workload, you can tailor your studies to your schedule. We are with you every step of the way, from instructional and student support to graduate counseling. Your success is our top priority, and we take pride in helping you overcome any challenges.

What qualifications do the faculty hold?

McKinley faculty hold a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree and have direct professional experience in the fields they teach. Plus, they are credentialed by the Colorado Department of Higher Education in their specialized areas.

Will my credits transfer to another school?

Individual schools establish the transfer credit policy for their school. As such, McKinley College cannot guarantee other schools will accept its credits in transfer. Students who wish to transfer credits to another institution should contact the new school about their transfer credit guidelines and requirements.

Will McKinley accept my credits for transfer from another school?

The McKinley Registrar will gladly review college transcripts for possible transfer credit. The appropriate forms and instructions are in the McKinley College Catalog.

What is the availability of the faculty?

Faculty are available by phone Monday through Thursday, from 11 am to 5 pm EST (8 am to 2 pm PST) and via email. Plus, you are welcome to write to our faculty any time.

What other materials will I need to purchase to earn my degree?

Each course includes your customized textbooks, study guides and supplements. You will need access to a computer with high-speed, internet access and Microsoft Office Suite Software, as well as a CD player. Some courses may require additional resources that you can obtain at your local library.

Can I get transfer credit for my work experience?

Yes! McKinley College knows that you may have valuable experience in some of the subject areas covered in your program. For a minimal charge, you can take Life Experience Exams to potentially earn credit in these subject areas.

How will my degree advance my career?

Just think of all the positions that require a college degree! A degree will give you an edge in the hiring process. And the benefits don’t stop once you have your foot in the door. Employers will recognize your degree as evidence of your dedication to your career and to a lifetime of learning and professional development. Professionals with college degrees have been shown to make substantially more than their non-degreed colleagues.

Can I progress to the next term without paying off my current term?

Yes! Just pay the required down payment, and we will simply add your remaining tuition payments to the end of your existing payment schedule.

What is an AAS Degree?

An Associate of Applied Science Degree Program offers courses directly related to your chosen field, in addition to general education credits. Your AAS degree symbolizes a well-rounded, career-focused education.

Will I be ready to work when I graduate?

Your program covers everything you need to know to start your career, including a Career Development Strategies Course that will jump-start your career. When you graduate, we will provide you with unlimited career support. That means we’ll help you develop your resume and interviewing skills, as well as answer any questions you may have in your job search and beyond.
